NAILA 2020: LATEST NEWS
Dear NAILA friends and supporters,
We hope you are all doing well despite the current situation, and hope you are staying in good spirits. NAILA is thinking of you; educators, students, family members alike. NAILA has a number of exciting announcements to share regarding our annual competition and other fun activities organised by our team.
NAILA 2020 Competition
Young Indonesian language enthusiasts will be pleased to know that we plan on organising another speech competition in 2020! The theme for this year’s competition is “Travel” which will be announced officially in due course on our social media and website. We understand how much the travel industry has been impacted by the current situation and how some of us have had to cancel or reconsider our travel plans, so we thought the theme would be appropriate and timely in as it supports the Australian government’s effort to boost domestic travel while continuing to ease restrictions. For those who had to cancel their plans to visit Indonesia this year, this is your opportunity to practice your Indonesian so you will be ready to speak like a local when we are able to travel internationally again. Keep an eye on our social media, website and future announcements for more details!
We have had to make difficult decisions to reduce the number of Award Categories this year. As NAILA is a not-for-profit initiative, we rely on the generosity of our sponsors to run our competition and unfortunately the current crisis makes it challenging for us to secure sufficient funding this year. Participants in Primary, Middle, Senior and Tertiary categories can still participate in this year’s competition. For those who don’t fit into these categories, do not fret, there is still the Wild Card category which you may be able to participate in. The Award Ceremony may be a little bit different this year, nonetheless the NAILA Committee are committed to delivering an equally fun event to celebrate this year’s Awardees!
NAILA is hosting our first virtual event via a live game of Kahoot with the Australia-Indonesia Youth Association this Sunday, 31 May 2020 at 5:30PM AEST. This will be a fun opportunity to practise your Indonesian and test your knowledge about Indonesia while competing with your friends and others. It is a free event and anyone can join using this Zoom link.
NAILA Social Media Challenges
NAILA has also launched a new initiative – one that doesn’t require leaving the house! As a warm-up for the main competition later in the year, our Instagram page will feature a number of mini challenges for students of Indonesian. For example, students might make a short fifteen second video talking about your favourite hobby – using Indonesian! Then, if you would like, we might feature you on our social media to encourage others to participate and keep practising their Indonesian language even while in isolation. Find instructions on how to participate in our first social media challenge here, and be on the lookout for more activities in the coming weeks. Ayo, ramaikan media sosial kamu dengan bahasa Indonesia!
With your support, NAILA Committee are confident that we will have another successful year ahead. In the meantime, if you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact us.
Salam semangat on behalf of the NAILA Team,
Sheila and Melanie
